FAQs: Flowerology Naturally Kinder Vegan Colour

How long will my colour last for?

Flowerology is permanent hair colour. Your hair will grow over time and the colour will fade depending on your hair and how often you wash it, but the colour is designed to be permanent. If you need help maintaining your colour, take a look at our Flowerology Care range.

What comes in a Flowerology permanent colour kit?

Your Flowerology colour box contains:

1x Flowerology Colour Gel

1x Flowerology Developer

1x Colour Lock Conditioner

1x Pair of protective gloves

1x Instruction leaflet

Can I use Flowerology over another hair colour product?

Yes you can, unless your current hair colour product contains metals or henna. If your current hair colour contains lead acetate, zinc, iron or copper you should wait at least a month before using Flowerology. The same applies for Henna. Henna leaves a waxy residue on your hair and means it won’t absorb Flowerology colour properly. Make sure you give your hair a thorough and regular shampoo to wash away any metallic or waxy residue.

I’ve used hair colour for years without any problems. Why do I need to carry out a sensitivity test before use?

Good question! Anyone can actually become sensitive to ingredients in hair colour over time, so even if you have always been fine before, it’s possible you could be more sensitive now. Other factors can also affect sensitivity results; medication might affect how your body reacts, or if you’ve had permanent make-up or tattoos. If your scalp is irritated or damaged that might cause a reaction too. So we encourage you to always take a sensitivity test 48 hours before use, even though it’s formulated to be very gentle on hair and skin. You’ll find more details in the instruction leaflet in each Flowerology colour box.

Why should I carry out a strand test when the colour result is shown on the box?

The colour shown on the box is only our best guide to the result you’ll get with your colour. How your hair actually responds to the colour is affected by factors such as: • Your hair condition

• If your hair is already coloured

• How much grey is in your hair

• If you’re on certain medications which can interfere with colour take-up It’s a good idea to take a strand test at the same time as you take the sensitivity test. That way you know for sure how your hair responds to the colour and you can make sure you’re happy before you go any further. Take a look at the instruction leaflet in your Flowerology colour box for simple instructions on how to do a strand test.

Are Flowerology products suitable for vegans and vegetarians?

Yes! All Umberto Giannini products are 100% vegan and cruelty free. Can any unused colour be saved and used for another application? Yes and no. If you’ve already mixed the Colour Gel with the developer, it can’t be used again at a later date and should be disposed of. If you’ve got unmixed Colour Gel left in the bottle, that will be safe to use for up to 6 months - just make sure you’ve sealed the bottle properly and store it in a cool place out of direct sunlight.

I am pregnant. Can I colour my hair?

We don’t advise you use Flowerology while you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. If you do decide to colour your hair, have a chat with your doctor first and make sure you carry out a sensitivity test.

Can Flowerology be used by people undergoing chemotherapy?

We don’t advise you use Flowerology if you’re having chemotherapy, radiotherapy or other forms of medical treatment. If you do decide to colour your hair, have a chat with your doctor first and make sure you carry out a sensitivity test.

What should I do if I have an allergic reaction to Flowerology?

Please remember to always do a sensitivity test before using Flowerology. If you do, however, have any kind of reaction, please seek appropriate medical attention.

Is there a way of removing permanent hair colour if I am not happy with the result?

Yes, hair salons have all the appropriate products needed to remove permanent colour. It’s always a good idea to do a strand test before full application in case you aren’t happy with the colour.

Can Flowerology be used for lightening hair?

Yes. Flowerology will lighten hair by approximately one shade. So, if you’re a natural base 5, it will lift your hair to around a base 6.

How often should I colour my hair?

If you’re covering regrowth, we recommend to colour your hair when there’s 3cm to 4cm of regrowth. That’s usually about every four to six weeks, but it depends on how quickly your hair grows.

I’ve recently permed my hair. Can I use your colours?

It’s a good idea to wait one week before you colour your hair after an ammonia-based perm. If you’ve permed your hair with an ammonia-free perm, then you can colour your hair straight away.

Can I go back to ammonia-based hair colours after using Flowerology?

Flowerology won’t damage your hair, so you will be able to apply another brand of colour over the top. However it’s worth checking with the manufacturer of the brand you want to use to make sure it’s compatible with Flowerology.

I have a stain from the colour on my skin. How do I remove it?

Soap and water will wash away any stains to your skin.

Is Flowerology hair colour suitable for use on children?

No, Flowerology isn’t suitable for anyone under the age of 16.

Does Flowerology contain heavy metals?

No.

Do Flowerology colours contain PPDs?

Flowerology permanent hair colours contain the lowest levels of pigment (PPDs) possible to colour the hair. The average level of pigment is just 0.42% as opposed to the legal maximum in the EU of 4%.
